A very peculiar population of bears

Picture
Foto por Michael Tweddle
In the mountains near the campesino community of Corosha, in the Tropical Andes of northeast Peru, there lives a population of spectacled bears with peculiar characteristics. This population is located in a small area, named "Copal", where they spend the day feeding on plants, and are easily observed by our team. Among these bears is "Paddy", a very curious golden colored Andean bear.

Studying and observing bears

Monitoring with camera traps

In conjunction with the San Diego Zoo and IMA we are monitoring the bear population using camera traps

Monitoring animals in copal

We frequently visit Copal and collect observational data on the behavior of the bears from two observation points
